difference between prebuild and postbuild

Can anyone tem me the exact difference between prebuild and postbuild peoplecode events?

Prebuild is the event which gets triggered while loading a component i.e before the build process, generally used to validate the search ,whereas post build gets triggered aftr the component build process is done.
both these events r used to change the visibility options and setting component variables.
the prebuild is initialized before the component build events.
it is used to hide or unhide some pages in the components
if you write any error/waring msgs in prebuild the page transfers to search page.
if search page is not there it will display blank page...
