special caracters are not translated correctly when ftp from windows to unix

Hi,
I try to transfer a file from windows to unix. The transfer terminate with success by when I verify the file transfered, I see some special characters instead of character like É or È or Ô or Ê or Ï because we use French language.
example: the address "Boulevard DE LA CÔTE-VERTU" is translated as "Boulevard DE LA C\303\224TE-VERTU".
Is there some option to make translation correctly.

check the transfer type .. to my knowledge it should be ascii
